Livestream Upgrade Phase 2: Summer/Fall 2024

For the first 3 years of the livestream, the livestream audio technicians were in the same room as the services which made mixing for the broadcast incredibly difficult so we designed a broadcast audio studio that we installed in the summer of 2024.

After picking out the space, and designing it, my team pulled all of the necessary cabling from the sanctuary to the studio and set up a Dante network to communicate back and forth between the front of house and the studio. Some of this cabling and the new network will ultimately be used in our media and camera broadcast studio when we install in 2025.

In the fall of 2024 we purchased a DiGiCo board to mix the services on and installed it in the broadcast studio to double the number of channels we have to work with. This gave us the ability to mic more instruments and people and have more room mics so we can give a more realistic, immersive experience to the people viewing the livestream at home.

Broadcast Audio Studio Install: Acoustic Treatment

After designing the room and pulling cable, we installed acoustic treatment to the walls and ceiling to give the livestream audio technician a nice quiet environment to mix in.

Broadcast Audio Studio Install: Early Use

After installing the acoustic treatment and testing everything, we were able to livestream for a few weeks with an early version of the new studio. We were still in the process of installing equipment and troubleshooting the new system while we waited for the new broadcast soundboard to come in.

Broadcast Audio Studio Install: DiGiCo Soundboard

Fall of 2024, our new DiGiCo soundboard was delivered and we installed it into the new broadcast audio studio. This board allows us to have twice as many channels as the Midas M32 board that we were using previously which means that we can send out twice as many audio channels to the livestream to create a more immersive audio experience.

Broadcast Audio Studio Install: Final Product

The new Broadcast Audio Studio has been a game changer for the audio livestream technicians. Now they can mix in a quiet space, removed from the people and noise of the sanctuary. The DiGiCo board has been an incredible asset to the new studio and we plan to purchase an additional one to double the number of channels we have at our FOH space.
